Improving Public Health with Rails
We are a self-funded startup working on tools for improving public health. We're based in Seattle and San Francisco. For this position, we'd prefer someone in Seattle.We need an experienced developer who is skilled throughout the Ruby-based web application stack, from Rails/Sinatra through HAML/SASS/JQuery. As part of a team including UX designers and other Ruby developers, you'll be responsible for implementing websites (external and internal), keeping them running, and continuously improving them as we grow and learn.
Your Rails skills should be very strong, and demonstrated in shipping apps. You should care deeply about clean and maintainable business logic, database schema, and models; good MVC separation; thoughtful performance strategies; thorough automated testing; and effective use of source control.
Great design is important to us. You should have the desire and ability to collaborate with designers and faithfully translate a design into cross-browser, standards-compliant markup and code.
As one of the first hires, you'll be helping to define the culture for the company and setting an example of how to do things right in all these areas, so you should be willing and able to mentor others in good practices.
