888.313.2007 : mirRoR Placement

A Rails app to fight infectious diseases

We are hiring a senior developer to join our web-based scientific software team. We'll provide an environment where you can write solid code that solves an important problem using up-to-date technology working with other smart and fun people.

We work in Ruby, using the Ruby on Rails web framework. Our app is one of the most in-depth, cutting-edge Rails applications out there. We are passionate about automated testing, and use RSpec for behavior-driven development and Selenium RC for integration testing. Our project management approach is agile and practical, focused on impressing our customers by delivering continuous value with minimal defects.

Our software helps chemists and biologists manage and collaborate around their drug discovery data. We believe the innovative approach enabled by our technology dramatically reduces the risk and improves the efficiency of the drug discovery process, an important goal that affects both humanitarian and commercial markets. Our software is currently used by leading academic researchers (at Stanford, UCSF, UC Berkeley, etc.) working on finding drugs for developing-world infectious diseases. You will help our customers in their quest to alleviate significant human suffering (over 1 million people die and over 300 million are affected by malaria every year).

The company is funded by Omidyar Network (eBay founder), The Founders Fund (PayPal founders) and other prominent investors.

Major duties and requirements:

  • Writing application code and automated tests
  • Working closely with team members and with product users
  • Sharing sysadmin duties with the rest of the team

We're looking for a great developer, not acronyms/buzzwords or an arbitrary number of years of experience. The following are some guidelines to help you get a better idea of what we expect.

  • Solid knowledge of web applications and object-oriented design
  • Passion for automated testing and test-driven/behavior-driven development
  • Significant facility/experience with development tools and the software development process
  • nix background
  • An interest in science and scientific software
  • Good communication skills

Compensation: Negotiable.

Conditions: We are currently only considering people seeking full-time employment (either as a contractor or a permanent employee). Applicants must be local to the bay area or willing to relocate.
