We are looking for a Software Engineer with significant Ruby on Rails experience who will play a major role in the build-out of our website. This is a foundational role within the technology team. The ideal candidate will have been involved in the iterative build-out of a live web-based business using leading edge open-source technology.

This contract position, located in Seattle, will require 40 hours per week, negotiable. The initial contract, length negotiable but anticipated to be three months, offers an attractive and market-competitive hourly rate based on experience. After the initial contract, this position has the potential to become a regular, full-time, salaried position with excellent benefits, including full health care coverage, 401k matching, and other benefits.

Responsibilities:

• Serve as the primary website developer and architect, near-term, front-end and back-end, jack of all trades.
• Write elegant and performance-aware code on the server and database.
• Continuously improve personal and group processes for development, testing, measurement, and deployment of a highly scalable site.
• Administer development, QA, and near-term the production environment.
• Provide production support and debug.
• Work with a designer to implement browser UI and behaviors, using Ajax techniques where appropriate.
  

Experience, Skills and Qualifications:

• Demonstrated experience with Ruby, PHP, JavaScript, CSS, Rails.
• Demonstrated experience with MySQL.
• Experience integrating with a custom or open-source CMS.
• Linux system administration and scripting experience or skills.
• Knowledge of Web and database scalability techniques.
• Four-year college degree or equivalent experience in the field.
• Experience or ability to manage and deliver on objectives in a start-up/entrepreneurial environment.
