For engineers
If I text you, it’s because I know someone you should meet.
I only reach out when it’s worth your time, and I’ll tell you who it is. No stealth startups, no keyword soup, no résumé fired off to a dozen companies without asking. Twenty years of doing it this way, and the people I’ve placed are still picking up.
Transparency is the whole trick
From the first message, you get the real thing.
The company’s name
Every opportunity I share is real, at a company that’s actively hiring and has asked me to help. I tell you who it is in the first message. Other recruiters tell me this is crazy. Engineers tell me it’s rare.
The salary range
And the details that matter: the team, the stack, the stage, what the role actually does on day one. By the time I make a warm introduction, most of your questions are already answered.
Your consent, always
I only submit you to an opportunity you’ve reviewed and asked me to pursue. Never before, never anywhere else. I assumed every recruiter worked this way. I was wrong.
It’s about where you’re going
I’m focused on your career, not just your next job.
What frameworks and languages are you interested in? What sparks your passion? What kind of environment do you thrive in? Where are you headed, in your career and in life?
The opportunities I send make sense for you: the stack you want, the roles and companies that fit where you’re headed. No matter where you start, the top is within reach.
Once you decide to go for it
I run your fan club.
- I’m as involved in the interview process as you want me to be.
- Advocacy, encouragement, tips and advice. Never pressure.
- Honest advice even when it costs me a fee. A bad match doesn’t do anyone any favors, including me.
- Pretty much imperturbable. Steady support through whatever comes up.
They took the call. Here’s what happened.
In their own words.
Brian is exceptional. Working with him is always a positive and wonderful experience. In fact, I've enjoyed my experiences working with Brian so much, that the normal anxiety and fear around searching for a new job has turned into excitement and optimism; I know I am in good hands when working with Brian and I have nothing to worry about. I cannot thank Brian enough for the endless help and support he has provided me throughout the years. Careers are long, and I hope to continue working with Brian for years to come.
Brian put me in touch with my prior employer, where I worked for 7.5 years! Unlike most other headhunters, he was never pushy. In addition, he listened to what I was looking for. Many thanks for the quality work, and for connecting me with a place I really enjoyed working at for so long.
Brian landed me my first real job when I was just 20 (14 years ago now!). That first step was the beginning of an extremely fruitful career. Literally life-changing. It's always great to hear back from Mirror and see that they're still at it!
Brian is by far the most thoughtful and helpful recruiter I've ever worked with. He always has everyone's best interests in mind, provides excellent advice, and has an incredible knack for connecting the right candidates and companies with each other. These days it's hard for me to imagine searching for something new without his help!
Know someone?
The best people I know, I met through people like you.
If there’s an engineer who should be on my list, or a team that should know I exist, send them my way. A text is enough: 978-808-1859. Or forward this page.
Talk to Brian
Say hello. Or just tell me where you’re headed.
You don’t have to be looking. Most of the people I’ve placed weren’t. Tell me what you’re working on and what would make you pick up, and I’ll keep you in mind for the right thing, not the next thing.
I read these myself. Jonathan Soo Hoo, my partner at Mirror, does the first outreach on some searches; if you hear from him, that’s why.
